When Extremely Long Dreadlocks Became a Football Hazard Football is full of unusual stories, but Anguilla forward Aedan Scipio has one of the most memorable.
With dreadlocks that reportedly reach his ankles, the 36-year-old forward is hard to miss on the pitch. His hair is so long that he uses a band around his waist to keep it secured while playing.
But during Anguilla's Concacaf Nations League match against Antigua and Barbuda, Scipio's famous dreadlocks became more than just a distinctive feature—they unexpectedly became part of the match itself.
Scipio came off the bench in the 69th minute, with Anguilla already trailing 5–0. Just three minutes later, Antigua and Barbuda's Keon Greene was shown a straight red card after pulling Scipio's dreadlocks.
And the unusual incidents didn't stop there.
In stoppage time, Antigua and Barbuda were reduced to nine players after Shalon Knight pulled Scipio's dreadlocks from behind, bringing the Anguilla forward to the ground.
What started as a football match turned into one of those extraordinary moments that football fans are unlikely to forget.
Anguilla, ranked 210th in the FIFA men's world rankings at the time, may not be one of international football's biggest teams, but moments like this show why football at every level can produce unforgettable stories.
